Manali and Solang Valley Travel Guide: How to Reach, Seasons and What to Book

Manali sits at about 2,000 m at the head of the Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh. In summer it is a cool escape with paragliding, rafting and treks; in winter, Solang Valley turns into one of the easiest places in India to try skiing. This guide covers getting there, the seasons and what to see nearby.
How to reach Manali
- By road: Delhi to Manali is about 540 km. Overnight Volvo buses take 12 to 14 hours and are the most popular option. From Chandigarh it is about 300 km.
- By air: Bhuntar Airport (Kullu) is about 50 km from Manali, but flights are few and weather-dependent. Many people fly to Chandigarh and drive.
- By train: there is no railway to Manali. The nearest practical broad-gauge stations are Chandigarh and Kiratpur Sahib, followed by a bus or taxi.
Solang Valley is about 14 km north of Manali, on the road to the Atal Tunnel. Kullu, where Beas rafting and orchard camps are, is about 40 km south.
